The Secret To Your Oral Health

Staff | October 2021

October is Dental Hygiene Month. To keep your mouth, teeth and gums clean and healthy, there are simple things the whole family can do. Good oral health is the result of making these healthy hygiene habits part of your lifestyle.

Brushing

According to the American Dental Association, you should be brushing your teeth at least twice a day to keep your teeth, gums and mouth clean. Brushing before going to bed is especially important to clean away the day’s food particles, germs and plaque. How long should you brush your teeth? To get the best results, we recommended you brush one minute on the top teeth and one minute on the bottom teeth. Be sure to brush your back molars and your tongue to remove bacteria that causes plaque. Using a soft-bristled brush and fluoridated toothpaste help you keep your teeth clean and healthy.

Flossing

You should floss (or use interdental brushes) at least once a day to clean between your teeth, where your toothbrush may not be able to reach. Flossing prevents plaque from building up on your teeth and along the gum line. Plaque contains more than 500 species of bacteria. Some of them can be harmful to your oral health. You can actively prevent tooth decay and gum disease with consistent, daily flossing and brushing.

Professional Dental Cleaning

Regular dental visits complete your preventive oral care regimen. Our hygienists are here to educate you on the most-effective techniques to keep you and your family healthy. And they do so much more! They perform deep cleaning of your teeth and gums. They treat and prevent gum disease, screen for oral cancer and take x-rays when needed. When appropriate, they apply sealants to prevent cavities and can help you whiten your teeth. Be sure to schedule twice-yearly cleaning with our hygienists for optimal oral health.

You have the power to prevent tooth decay and gum disease! Making regular brushing and flossing part of your daily routine and coming in for professional, deep cleaning twice a year are  key to your oral health.
